Sereni-tea

This is a powerful blend of herbs which has a calming and balancing effect on mood. It is excellent for relaxation during the day and if taken at night, will promote deep, peaceful sleep. It facilitates the removal of toxins from vital organs, aids digestion and reduces anxiety, among many other positive benefits.

Sereni-tea contains the following herbs:
Chamomile, Peppermint, Skullcap, Hops, Catnip, Yarrow and Lemon Verbena.

Here is a little more information on each of the ingredients:

Chamomile promotes sleep and treats insomnia. It is a relaxant, also boosting immunity and reducing muscle spasms and period pains. It soothes stomach ache and is a powerhouse of antioxidants. The essential oils in Chamomile blossoms are partly composed of azulene, which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. The unique combination of ingredients in Chamomile, namely wax, resins, chlorophyll, bitter agents, fatty acids and phosphoric acid salts, when consumed as a tea, has the potential to provoke surprising healing effects.

Peppermint contains a number of different bitter agents that have anti-inflammatory properties as well as the ability to kill germs, relieve cramps and pain. It is also known to assist with digestive disorders including bloating, diarrhoea, stomach ache, gall ailments, nausea and indigestion. Peppermint is also used to treat insomnia, headaches and the common cold.

Skullcap is used for treating insomnia, anxiety, stress, nervous tension, fever, high cholesterol, “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), epilepsy, allergies, skin infections, inflammation and spasms.

Hops is an excellent sleep aid and treats stress and anxiety, eases and stimulates the digestive system, is a powerful immune booster boasting antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial and antibiotic properties. Hops is also high in antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It is effective at reducing the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome by reducing irritability and soothing cramps. For menopausal women, hops helps to naturally regulate hormones, ease hot flashes and calm frayed nerves.

Catnip is most commonly used to treat nervous tension and anxiety, as well as insomnia. It is also useful in treating gastrointestinal upset, including indigestion, cramping and gas. It can act as a diuretic, increasing urination and therefore decreasing water retention. Catnip tea has also been used to treat issues like arthritis, coughs, hives, fevers and viruses.

Yarrow is a bitter herb that contains flavonoids, essential oils and essential minerals such as potassium. In addition to providing relief for a variety of digestion issues, yarrow helps to fight bacteria and viruses, relieves cramping and menstrual discomfort, while also aiding detoxification.

Lemon Verbena increases the rate of fat burning by optimising various bodily systems. It helps to strengthen muscles, reduces inflammation and is an immunity booster. It is effective for the treatment of respiratory congestion, while also providing relief from nervous afflictions and stress. Lemon verbena eases digestive complaints, joint pain, skin conditions, insomnia, colds and fever. It adds a delicious lemon flavour to the mix of bitter herbs in Sereni-tea.

Bitter herbs, in general, help our digestive systems to function at their peak. This happens because they stimulate the production of digestive juices and the dispatch of stored bile (necessary for fat digestion and sugar metabolism) from the gallbladder to the small intestine after meals, thus aiding nutrient assimilation. Bile itself is a natural laxative, important in keeping us regular.

Gentle bitter herbs such as those found in this tea support the liver in detoxification and bile production without causing dependence on the herb.

In summary, Sereni-tea is useful for the following:

  • Relieving daily stress and anxiety
  • Assisting with general detoxification
  • Calming hyperactive children and adults
  • Providing a calming and balancing effect for those in high stress environments
  • Promoting deep, peaceful sleep

Place 2 g (two flat teaspoons) in a tea strainer. Pour boiled water over the tea and allow to steep for 3 minutes at most, to avoid the tea becoming too bitter. Drink as is or add a little raw (badger-friendly) honey or freshly squeezed lemon to taste. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
